PH15 expo Aug. 3rd- Aug. 18th

ph: photography – Drawing with light

15: the number assigned to identify the slum "Ciudad Oculta", or Hidden City, located in the edge of Buenos Aires.

ph15: a space where a group of kids from this particular slum are encouraged to express their personal views through the use of photography. In this workshop they explore who they are and what they feel.

ph15 was started by photographer Martin Rosenthal in 2000 to teach photography to teenagers living in Villa 15 (slum 15), also known as the Hidden City located on the edge of Buenos Aires. Villa 15 is one of the hundreds of shantytowns housing Argentines who have fallen below the poverty line during the economic decline of the past decade. The students learn how to use photography as a language for communicating ideas about their lives and environment to a broader audience. The results are a consistently honest and often moving portrayal of life in Villa 15. Sophisticated portraits emerge with compositions that are richly descriptive of the world that surrounds these young people - a world containing its own beauty and sadness.

The photos produced by this talented kids will be shown in Canal 7, Buenos Aires, from August 3rd until August 18th. ph15 students will be selling and signing their book "ph15: photos by kids of ciudad oculta" during the opening.
